Seed and Agronomy
Isle of Ely Produce are authorized seed potato distributors of leading seed houses and growers in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. We believe that we are the right company to discuss which variety will match your soil type and agronomy.
We have a dedicated agronomist who offers support to seed customers in order to maximize production and profits. Our agronomist makes sure that you have truly independent seed quality data that enables you to negotiate with the seed supplier on the basis of facts. Only by carefully observing seed crops in the field and in stores is it possible to identify the best managed seed crops.
Our every effort is made to ensure first-class liaison between buyer and seller. This support will continue, if required, during the whole growth cycle of the ware crop.
We will arrange for you and our specialist agricultural advisor to:
Inspect seed crops prior to desiccation. Test digs are made to look for tell-tale signs underground, rotting seed tubers, stem canker, brown flecking caused by the skin spot fungus and the general fitness and appearance. Many diseases can be spotted in the field, that after desiccation, become invisible and impossible to find.
During late autumn the stores are visited, washed samples are assessed, and the general condition of the store is evaluated. Upon delivery, a sample is drawn from each lorry. The samples are then washed and assessed for quality. This includes a microscopic ‘eye plug test’.
Relevant crop data like planting, desiccation, harvest dates and tuber counts is collected and then advice may be given on seed rates, chemical treatments and other relevant crop recommendations.
Storage and Logistics
Our state-of-the-art facilities have been carefully designed for the storage of potatoes. We have invested heavily in improving our storage and handling facilities by doubling the size of our Cambridgeshire site giving us an extensive set down space. Our integrated management system provides 100% traceability on all produce received and dispatched. Instantly updated after every transaction, we’ll know the location of our stock at all the time.
We offer many transportation services, including:
Palletised Haulage Services: Taut liners for the transport of goods on pallets. Multi delivery palletised agricultural products. However, any palletised goods can be catered for.
Bulk transport: Self tipping bulkers, tippers and walking floors.
Container Transport: We can provide door to port, and port to port container transport. We can provide 20ft, 40ft, high-cube and reefer containers. Collection and deliveries arranged throughout Europe.
Back loading Service: If you are empty with your truck and would like a back load, we will be able to assist.
